Great game all parts were there very happy with it.

  2. TroyLittle

The game is a lot of fun. Not as heavy as some 4x games. Down time between turns was not a problem as some others say it takes to long.

Twilight Imperium 4th Edition got me hooked on 4X (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) games, but at ~8 hours it’s difficult to get to the table and intimidating to non-gamers. Enter Star Trek Ascendancy! It takes about 1 hour per player in the game, but you can reduce this once you know what you’re doing and use some variant rules. And even disregarding length, it’s more fun than TI4 in my opinion. This is largely due to exploration (arguably nonexistent in TI4), which gives you the experience of exploring the galaxy for the first time. It’s kind of like Betrayal, where the map generates randomly as you and your rivals explore, with random thematic events happening at the new systems (some helpful, some painful). Especially in the early game, this exploration provides a fun randomness and excitement to the game that gets people hooked, even those that don’t like longer, heavier board games. And, even though this randomness can impact who gets an early lead, the other aspects of the game (like negotiation between rivals and good strategy) even things out. This also makes every game different – you can’t rely on 1 strategy for each faction because the map will be different, your opponents will be different, etc, forcing you to change things up on the fly.The combat is simple but fun. The asymmetry between factions is very well thought out and balanced. The technology upgrades are not as good as in TI4 but are still a great part of the game. And if you are a Trekkie, you’ll.

Surprisingly engaging and fun in it’s complexity. Prepare from some adequate and ultimately satisfying angst as you play. Feels very Trek, which is what I really love about it. Can’t wait to try out expansions. It would be worth it to seek out descriptions of play and sources to ask questions from when you play…

This game is typical of Gale Force 9 in that it is lavish but filled with rules that are not always well organized. It is beautiful, but often includes things that seemingly contradict themselves. Once you can slog through the rules, what lies beneath is a sold game that can be a lot of fun.

  6. James Ross Wilks

This game is quite a lot of fun! It helps if you like Star Trek, but the core gameplay is great. There is a little bit of a balance issue with the Federation, but they’re are ways to combat it, not the least of which is playing to six Ascension points. The only real complaint I have is the fact that you’re restricted to only three players. I don’t mind paying for the Ferengi and Cardassian expansions, but where are they, Gale Force Nine??

  7. shannon broughton

The game is quite fun once you get past the learning curve. It’s a longer game that’s kind of like a mash-up of Risk and Catan. It’s a longer strategy game, you need to allow about 3-4 hours for first attempt. Each player has different abilities that help keep things interesting. The instructions aren’t as clear as they could be but thanks to YouTube you can watch others play and get the feel for play. Biggest complaint is that it only allows three players. You can purchase add-ons but they’re not cheap.

  8. dLyonBW

It is a bit simplified for my taste, but it is still really fun. It is obvious that many, many expansions are going to come from this and what is lacking will probably be added in time. My only 3 complaints are that the rules need to be clarified in certain sections, the star ships only have one type per race, and the system discs are too big (it doesn’t allow for as many systems on the map as I would like). But, it is a lot of fun otherwise and a must-have for any star-trek fan. Playing as the Romulans, I used my cloaking device to completely destroy the Klingons on the offensive. You got to love this game.

Game is great! You don’t have to be a Trekkie to love this game. I was surprised that not a single person in my gaming group had even watched Star Trek. I urged them to help me get it to the table and after a few weeks finally got a chance to play it. Everyone ended up loving it. Also have played since then with casual gamers and they love it too. Can see this one becoming a regular game for us. Word of advice this is really a 3 player game out of the box. They have expansions and extras you can add later for more players or variants like the Borg to make it a good single or two player game.

This game is so cool. it all
