I love hockey romance, and the first book in this series is one of my favorites, so I was both excited and a bit nervous for Ryu and Emmitt’s story. I should have trusted the skills of Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn, because I loved these guys just as much, if not more. If enemies-to-lovers is your jam, grab this book – it can be read as a standalone, though you shouldn’t skip Off The Ice because it’s excellent, too. There’s plenty of UST in this book, even once the two young men start having hot, hot sex. You don’t have to be a hockey fan to enjoy this story, either, though if you are one, you’ll be entertained by the game play as well as the romance. I’m ready for the next one!* I received an arc of this book*
Goalie Interference is the second book in the Hat Trick series by Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn. This is a contemporary m/m romance with an enemies to lovers theme. Sexy guys that bring the steam, competition that brings the spicy drama, and mix in some hockey scenes and you have an interesting and entertaining story with fun characters that you will want to know.I received an advanced reader’s copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
Ryu Mori and Emmett Armstrong are both goalies in the NHL who want to be the starter. Ryu had been back-up with the Atlanta Venom and when the starter is traded he is anxious to have the top spot. And then the team acquires a hot shot cocky young goalie from another franchise. They are competitors, but they also find they are drawn to one another in a more personal way. Being rivals and lovers, they are pushed to find a way to make it all work. There are so many ways they are different and so many ways that they are good for one another. And the story was well told and engaging way that fleshes out both men and makes you root for their relationship. I really like this series and am looking forward to more stories.I received a copy of the ARC from A Novel Take PR for an honest review.
I feel I need to start this review with a couple of disclaimers: 1) I am a HUGE hockey fan and have been for over 35 years and 2) I think hockey goaltenders are pretty much gods. This may or may not have affected my opinion of this but…which I loved, unexpectedly. I wasn’t really interested in Ryu from book one and while I’m a big fan of Ms. Gale’s, I’ve been hit or miss with Ms. Vaughn. This can be read as a standalone although Tristan and Sebastian are in this book quite a bit.Ryu and Emmitt’s initial animosity is passionate which of course translated perfectly to the bedroom. At first glance, this appears to also be an opposites attract story but as we get to know both characters we can see they come from similar backgrounds and upbringing. Ryu’s not surprising but Emmitt’s dad made me angry…although living in Texas I see that type of behavior all the time. Football is king here, everything else is just a leisure activity. I was surprised at the glimpses of gentleness between these – how good they are at it and how much it worked for them. I really like them together and hope we see more of them in future installments of this series.I was pleasantly surprised by how the goalie competition was handled and while the outcome was as expected, there were a couple of shockers along the way. There was one scene in particular that played out as expected but I would have been sorely disappointed (and probably would have thrown my Kindle in a fit of rage) had it not happened exactly.
This book was wonderful. Two MCs from minorities who want, need to prove to the world that they are the best goalie despite their origins. In a sport where there is only one star goalie and there should be a strong competitiveness, Ryu and Emmit challenge themselves and their environment just by loving each other, supporting one another and being partners on and out of the ice. When opposite attracts, the result is astonishing, even when they face a big challenge and learn from it in order to further grow strong as lovers and team mates.
Loved the book! The chemistry between Mori & Army was palpable! I can highly recommend this book as one of my favorites!
I really liked the slow build of their relationship. There was a sweetness a out it that softened the hard edges of Ryu and the cocky arrogance of Emmitt. Ots a great follow up with a solid cadt of characters looking forward to the next.
I liked this book. I enjoy reading about pro athletes falling in love. This one did not disappoint.
Wow… I read this book in just two evenings! I loved the fast action of the hockey games and savored the enemies to lovers relationship! Loved the steamy, yet super sweet and deep relationship Emmitt and Ryu built together. An enemies to lovers/ hockey fan must read! ðŸ’â¤ï¸
An awesome enemies to lovers hockey romance that literally could melt the ice rinks they skated on. Two men doing the same job couldn’t be more different. Ryu is the seasoned goalie that has reigned with his team the Venoms. Emmitt is the newbie goalie backup brought in from the minors. Where Ryu is cautious and deliberate, Emmitt is wild and fierce. They both are strong men with polar opposite personalities. As the men compete a friendship sneaks up on them. I enjoyed both of the MC’s but found the subtle changes of the aloof Ryu the most endearing. The two made a very convincing pair and their chemistry was epic. As challenges and demands from their beloved sport increase can the men hold onto their fledgling relationship? I absolutely recommend this fun and intensely romantic book.
