As a long-time Nintendo fan and having played all the prior Super Smash Bros. installments, I have to say the 3DS version does not disappoint. All the various modes from the past are still there, with several additions. The graphics are beautiful and do justice to the 3D display, although 2D mode looks great, too. The game proceeds much faster than previous installments of SSBros, perhaps owing to the fact that this is on Nintendo’s mobile platform. Some of the minigames, such as the target smash, have been changed and feel more like a game you might play on a mobile phone or tablet – the new target smash has some elements similar to Angry Birds and other tower-physics games. In any case, there are trophies and stickers to collect, numerous upgrades and customizations, and as a new feature you can create specific skill upgrades and enhancements for your playable Mii characters and any of the other playable characters. I’m enjoying it a lot and I have been using the local play feature, though I have yet to try the online features.

I am a big Smash Brothers fan and I really liked this game but I had a few gripes with it. The modes were very fun but they got repetitive after a while. The new mode Smash Run is very fun it is a mode where you spend 5 mins collecting stats and you have a race, jump race, battle etc. . The controls were very good but the only problem with the controls is when ever you move the circle pad up it registers as right. The customization is really good but I never found much use out of it other than custom moves.Overall this game is really fun and I would recommend this to anyone from casuals to competitive.

This game is worth your money. For those with a Nintendo Wii U and/or Nintendo 3ds, the choice to buy a great game on such a tiny screen versus the larger screen is a doozy. Personally, I have a Wii U as well as a 3ds, and I wanted to try this version as well, since I really couldn’t wait for the November smash hit, I decided to get it. As a Handheld game, SSB4 is pretty amazing. Its not watered down, its the entire game (so far) with so much more. First, there is Classic Mode, with no real story, but you just battle. Just wait until you fight Crazy + Master Hand. There is also Smash Run, and it feels weird and looks strange, but after the first few times, you’ll just keep playing until you’re forced to fall asleep. The purpose of it is to fight your way to different areas of the world against all sorts of enemies from different games, and gain power ups. After the five minutes, you have to battle other characters in a variety of games- some can be smash and others can be races. Winning these challenges give you different rewards, such as trophies, new attacks (which can be used in smash), and costumes. Its really worth it.Aside from these two, there are other modes which I have yet to explore, but by far the coolest thing is that I could customize my mii (attacks and costume) to use him in smash and smash run. Its just unbelievable [how much he looks like me]. This game is worth your investment. For those naysayers, there are some drawbacks that may affect the gameplay. Size.

I’ve always loved the Super Smash Bros. series, so when I saw they were coming out with one for the 3ds, I just had to get it. I was not disappointed. The game speed is very good, so are the textures and variety of characters. I have not played online against friends much so I cannot comment on that. One thing I dislike about the game is that when you first start it up, it takes a while to load. But considering how intense it is for just being a 3ds game, I’m not surprised, and it’s worth the wait. I haven’t had any problems with lag so far, and I enjoy all of the characters and stages. :) If you either have played one of the previous games, or are totally new to this series you will love this game if you love to just battle computers, or your friends. :) Hope this was helpful!

I got my girlfriend this game for her birthday (along with a 3DS) and she loves it. She has no complaints about it. Since I own the Wii U version, she likes to hone her skills in this game so when she comes over to my house, she has fun playing with me.I am also a bit jealous because this game has Smash Run and I’m stuck with Smash Tour, but it makes her happy so what the heck hahaThanks!

I’ve been holding off on buying a 3DS for awhile but I knew once I got one, that Smash bros would be my 1st game.It did not disappoint. The graphics are crisp and the colors pop. The animations are fluid. The roster and game play is robust. I can spend 5 minutes playing or 5hrs, its that good.My only gripe is when the action gets heavy with 4 characters, the camera pans out and it can be hard to keep up with the action on a small screen.Overall, the game is worth every dime.

This is a great addition to the Smash Bros. series. The difficulty of this game seems to be amped up over the previous Smash game but that may just be due to getting used to the controls which at first may be adverse and difficult since most of us were used to the GameCube controls, but after 15-20 min. the controls feel smooth and natural making the playing of this game pretty nice. The graphics for the system in which they are on seem to be wonderful compared to other games and the game looks very similar to it’s GameCube Smash counter part (this may be due to the size of the screen though, if you were to blow up the screen I’m sure the game has graphics of around the PS1 and N64 era). Overall this is a wonderful game with little loading time and mostly game play, lots o trophies and achievements two favorites carried forward from the Brawl game and then on, overall a great game and worth the $40.

For a 3DS game, smash brings to the table so many great things that anyone who’s played the previous games will enjoy, whether they’re looking for a party or to smash some heads competitively.Seriously, this thing’s got tons of modes. There’s the big ‘Smash’ button with single player or multiplayer battle, The Smash Run, which is like the adventure mode from brawl, but it only gives you 5 minutes. You get powerups from the monsters you beat then you use those in a final competition against 3 other players. Then there’s the solo mode, with classic mode, smash run (beating every character on 1 life with finite recovery), the home run derby, the target break mode that’s kind of fused with the home run derby, and don’t forget trophy rush, which is a great way to earn more of the over 500 trophies in the game.Online has some good workings with for glory and for fun. I like a little bit of both, personally, and each delivers spectacularly. There’s a little lag…but not much, most of the time.I also like the character roster. Sure, there are lots of carbon copies… But just think of them as extra alternate skins. I also like the mii fighter when playing for fun. My competitive friends always complain how it’s so broken, but my for-fun friends just love making John Goodman fight Iron Man.In all, great game, fantastic game. And the WiiU version has even more, so I’ll probably get that too. But that’s another story….

Very nearly a perfect 3DS game. Plenty of depth and nuance to sink your teeth into, and a lot of modes to keep it fresh. The "Smash Run" PVE mode’s a decent way to grind for unlocks, though note that it’s less of a complete experience than its Kirby equivalent in City Trail. The online mode, especially the spectator client, is usually pretty good — though, as a player in Taiwan, I suffer more inherent ping than most trying to connect to opponents in either US or Japan. Sad.If I had one major complaint: the grind to unlock custom moves. Unlike trophies, you can’t simply buy the abilities with the gold you accumulate throughout the rest of the game — and you accumulate a LOT of gold. The trophies are largely just cosmetic, and it feels unfortunate that we can’t unlock actual game features.Final note: poor Meta Knight got nerfed horribly. His melee animations don’t line up with his hitboxes at all. You’ll see a lot of Little Macs online, due to his ridiculously strong ground game, but the real threat’s Rosalina & Luma.

If you’re into fighting games like Street Fighter, or just a veteran Smash bros. player this is a must-have game on the Nintendo 3ds; the flagship game(The type of game that you can literally buy a system just to have).Graphics – 5/5All of the visuals in the game are seamless: from the items, assist trophies, pokemon, to the final smashes and lush level designs. All(I mean all) of the characters were designed with love and care that you become attached to them–Even the weird ones such as unlockable characters or characters like Pacman are designed in such a way that they find a home in the Smash brothers universe. There are no glitchy graphics and the hit boxes are very accurate. Even the Mii fighter charcter is integrated well (although I wish you could of been able to use them on online modes as well).Gameplay 4/5There are many game modes to choose from. Most of them are worth playing especially Smash Run, Classic Mode and Online modes. There are many game modes where you are able to collect trophies and other valuable items such as alterations of characters’ moves and other customizable items to create custom versions of characters. A drawback however is you cannot use these custom items (and Mii Fighter) on most (if not all) of the online smash modes. Another drawback from the online modes is that you are at the mercy of players who tend to have a terrible wifi connection. But when all players have good connectivity, that’s where the fun begins! All of the mechnics are ba.
