This amazing English police procedural (which follows one main story through the 6 episodes) really hits its stride in season five. The story, characters and direction are all stellar and this season is riveting with the most compelling villain yet, John Corbett. What’s at stake in this season is the reputation and career of Superintendant Hastings, the head of the anti corruption unit, AC 12. What sets this apart from most police shows are the long stretches in the interrogation room. We’ve never seen anything quite like this on American TV. Highly watchable, bingeable, and recommended for anyone who appreciates a good police drama.

I have watched all 5 seasons of this series and enjoyed them immensely. I got seasons 1-4 with a channel subscription, but had to pay for season 5 separately. It was worth it. It is well written, and well acted. There is no special effects or CGI of any significance. Just acting, dialogue, suspense, intrigue, and a few plot twists. I find that I identify with the main characters and want to see them succeed. Their interactions and emotions are believable. There are so many choices out there on the stream services, it is nice to find a high quality cop show.

Boss DS Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), DC Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure), DS Arnott (Martin Compston –‘Monarch of the Glen’) as the AC-12 team primaries. Sam (Aiysha Hart) returns to the series. Officers are killed and evidence suggests upper police positions in collusion with widespread gang criminal activity. It’s a case for Anti-corruption Unit 12 (AC-12).SDH SUBTITLES provided for over six hours. I binged it in one day, couldn’t stop watching. No Bonus.1 == A train robbery with 3 deaths. Corbett (Steven Graham) leads the bad guys AC-12 must stop. Can they?2 == AC-12 loses ground. DCC Wise (Elizabeth Rider) gets involved. Death. Leaks.3 == Corbett aligns within claiming high-level corruption on the force.4 == A raid gone bad escalates tension in and out of the law. Who is “H Hastings?5 == AC-12’s inquiry into police members’ histories bring about clues.6 == A fine conclusion of an intriguing story. A young gang member joins the police force, so it seems we’re in for another great season soon. Must have bad cops for the good ones to stop.

I started to write a headline with ‘top notch writing, acting, pacing’ and then realized I should check the reviews to not be redundant…uh. The reviews for this are all rather brief, because you’re just so awed at how well done this is that it’s best left for a viewer to just take the hint and watch for themselves. There’s no weakness to pick apart, to write something like ‘the acting was great but there were flaws in…’ Nothing but overall excellence. My only complaint is that the episodes are so gripping that it’s really hard not to binge and then you’re left knowing you’ll have to wait another year for the next season, alwasys with the risk it won’t be continued. (By ‘pacing’ I meant a tension that rarely relaxes, but isn’t overwhelming, just intriguing, exactly the right pitch.)At this point, rather than waste time reading my gushing, and unskilled effort to express appreciation, just start watching this and see if you don’t appreciate the encouragement by the entire group of reviewers.Other reviewers have commented about each season carrying the story line forward. Although they totally stand on their own, they are the richer for what occurred previously… and vice versa, so it is advisable to start with Season One.And, as other reviewers noted, the writing is astonishing. The writer and creator, Joe Mercurio, is incredibly talented: the plots are so intelligent and well-crafted as to leave a prospective writer utterly daunted, while the characters and relationships.

An exciting season.!! Many surprises, you don;t know what is going to happen next. But did I miss something….why did Gill go after Hastings ? And why had Gill selected Corbett to be the under cover officer?

I’ve watched the first 4 series of Line of Duty. This is a thriller from start to end. One does need the background provided by the first 4 in the series. The action flows from start to finish. Acting is superb, as per usual in this series. The plot shifts and twists do not seem forced. Not dull. Not hurried. Never does one feel that the plot is ever forced. Yet, I defy anyone who watches this to predict the ending at the start. The cinematography is varied and the views are sharp even when less than conventional. If you love British drama, you will be happy to have purchased this DVD.

Acting is A1

but not as good as the previous 4. The antagonist didn’t click with me much. Didn’t seem evil enough.

This review is specifically about season 5. This has been a riveting season with several talented actors. However Stephen Graham is absolutely superb in the role of an undercover cop working to uncover corruption within his own department, including senior officers. As a retired LEO I am keyed in for authenticity of story and characters. With this season, Line of Duty has shown itself to be top tier and Stephen Graham makes the show.
