I admit that The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is one of my favorite games of all time. In fact, I play the game once a year simply because it is that awesome. That is something I intend to do for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds since it is a game that is worthy to be a direct sequel to A Link to the Past. There are new elements to this game that is unique such as renting items. Unlike all previous Zelda games where you will find a new item at each dungeon, this game allows you to rent every item (when it is available), which allows you to tackle dungeons in any order you want. Also, each dungeon contains items that are not necessary to beat the game, but neat power-ups to enhance it. The ability to walk into walls is a great way to introduce new puzzles and game mechanics.Overall a great game for fans of the Zelda series and adventure/action RPG gamers. You need to play this game. It is simply legendary!

Wow. I never thought I would like this game as much as I did, mostly because I expected this to be like the DS games Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, which were pretty lackluster for me. Everything you love about zelda games can be found here: catchy music, characters that grow on you as you progress, great story, great gameplay, and overall just fun to play. The 3D is great here too, especially when it plays with distance and height on some levels, the 3D will make you nervous if you are like me and are afraid of heights, I get shivers just thinking about it. Best game on 3DS right now, if you have a 3DS or don’t, this game alone should justify having one.

Returning to the top-down design that the franchise started with, A Link Between Worlds is a fantastic reimagining of the Super Nintendo classic. The game features new mechanics and a new story that breathes fresh life into the nostalgic feel of Hyrule. The game somehow feels comfortable and nostalgic, yet new at the same time. The inclusion of new game mechanics like wall-merging and the item rental system offer an inventive new feel to the game, while the environment and NPC characters give the perfect balance of nostalgic callbacks to make the game feel comfortable to long term fans of the franchise.

Quite possibly the best handheld Zelda game to date. They found ways to make new puzzles for a game that’s been around for ages. 3D graphics were very well done (best use of 3DS screen I’ve ever seen). I love the new items too. Writing this review makes me want to go back and replay it.

Zelda Ocarina of Time for N64 was by far the best game I’ve ever played. The Zelda games have been lacking ever since then. I bought the 3DS XL primarily to get back into Zelda – this was the first game I have played on the system. All I can say is wow! That Zelda feeling of great design, great game dynamics, and quality are here. I’ve been having a blast revisiting old memories, exploring – and the dungeons are fun. This has that Zelda classic figure it out/puzzle aspect that is definitely just the right amount of complexity. Some are challenging but it’s well fit as to easy would be so boring. One thing they could improve upon is detail in the maps – I feel like they could have added more scenery in dungeons and complexity in the world in terms of look. However, still 5 starts as we don’t get to many games for adults in the 3DS library.Keep them coming!

This is a must-have game for any gamer, fans of Zelda and non-fans alike. It’s everything you could want in a game — quick, responsive gameplay delivered at 60fps, a stellar soundtrack, and plenty of content. This is a game you’ll want to use the 3D with, as the visuals really "pop" from the top-down perspective, and gives a great sense of the depth of things. The entire game is a pure joy to play from start to finish, and once you’re done, gamers who like a challenge can play the Hero Mode where you will die… a lot.Don’t hesitate. Buy this game!

At first I thought this was going to just be a remake of Link to the Past. Then I realized it’s not. Although it uses basically the same overworld map as LttP, this is a very different game. It’s not just a re-release for the 3DS. Even if you have played LttP, this is worth playing. Granted, it’s never going to be really remembered as an all-time great or amazing Zelda game. But if you are a fan of Zelda games, it’s worth your time and money to play this.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was one of my favorite games as a kid. So, when I found out that A Link Between Worlds was a sequel to A Link to the Past, I could’t wait to play it.I replayed A Link to the Past in preparation for my return to the same world in A Link Between Worlds. I wanted to refresh my memory of what was where and generally replay a great game. After playing both games back to back, though, I found out something. A Link Between Worlds is a good little game, but it isn’t as good as A Link to the Past.Is it fun? Yes.Am I glad I played it? Yes.The 2d mechanic lets you make yourself a painting that moves along a wall. It’s neat, but it makes many boss fights too easy. Half the time, you can hit the boss and merge into the nearest wall to keep from getting hit…wash rinse and repeat. The dungeons weren’t as fun or as interesting as I had hoped they would be.Many of the bosses and enemies in A Link to the Past either made a comeback or were replaced with a monster similar enough to violate copyright laws.Overall, it’s a fun trip down memory lane with enough similarity to A Link to the Past to cause nostalia and enough new stuff to make it fresh. In the end, I guess it’s everything a sequel is supposed to be. If only it could have been as great as its predecessor.

Oh man.As soon as you turn it on – it’s like your childhood went full-tilt insane. Those of us who played Zelda: Link to the Past as kids (or young adults, what have you) will have your minds blown the second the game queues up.It’s the Link to the Past overworld, reimagined and presented in some of the cleanest 3d i’ve seen yet on the 3ds. It’s mindblowing that Nintendo can get such great visuals out of its largely-crap hardware – while other studios struggle to maintain 30fps with crap visual fidelity, this game pulls a solid 60fps at almost all times and looks great while doing so.Why, again, was the Ocarina of Time remake so hideous looking, at 30fps nonetheless? /sigh.Biggest change to this game is that you have almost immediate access to all subweapons. Rather than lock each subweapon to each dungeon as a treasure – they require heavy use of one subweapon PER dungeon. You rent them from a rather hilarious NPC – and can later buy them (so you don’t lose them if/when you die). Tons of good collection mechanics, including age-old heart pieces and these new little snail-looking guys that allow you to power up your subweapons. The game claims you’ll have a lot more to do with your Ruppees than ever before, but I still found myself hopelessly overloaded with money the entire game long with little to use it on. I still think the best Ruppee-vs-buyable-crap balance was in Zelda: The Minish Cap.My main dislikes are that there’s almost too much content. There’s a veritable.

I was a little skeptical at first since the game pretty much uses the same map as the SNES game, but after playing it and finishing it I have to say that this game has the best of both worlds. The nostalgic feeling and the sense of discovering new things and adventures are amplified here in amazing ways. The traditional gameplay mechanics are there making it as good as the SNES Link to the Past game, plus the new "painting" mechanic and the ability to play the dungeons in almost any order elevate this game to a whole new level. Simply amazing and fun.
