Don’t believe all the naysayers, i’ve been a gamer for many years and this game was great.

Playing through Alpha Protocol is frustrating. Not because of the issues the game has – of which there is plenty – but rather it’s frustrating because you’re playing something that you know should be better than this. Earlier this year, 2 games came out which also had some real lack of polish and iffy design decisions but they were games that I put in quite a bit of time into anyway: those being Nier and Deadly Premonition. Those 2 and including Alpha Protocol are games where half of your brain is completely criticizing nearly every facet of what it has from the graphics to the AI to the unrefined gameplay and yet the other half keeps playing regardless and you’re left wondering how’s that possible with a game this flawed. Of course the game did have its share of problems from the delays to Sega apparently saying it wasn’t “RPG enough” yet the game, which was supposed to come out in October, was delayed till the very beginning of June so that’s roughly 8 months or so for polishing so makes you wonder if the game needed more time or if Sega interfered too much. Let me say now that this is a very hard game to recommend since you’ll either be like me and can see yourself doing a 2nd playthrough just for the hell of it and the others will be like “I can’t even finish it, it’s so bad”.Story: The story centers on Michael Thorton, an agent in Alpha Protocol, one of those secret spy organizations that gets the job done without the official acknowledgment or help from the US governmen.

Excellent game from my favorite developer. Like all Obsidian games, it does have a few bugs, but nothing I found to be game breaking.

gameplay- 8-10 takes some getting use to. its by the numbers. your stats are incredibly important. stick to what you want to do. you only get like 20 or 21 levels i believe. once your figure out how to work the system and your into the kotor/mass effect kinda thing you should dig it. miny games can kill but are necessary. bad AI at times. dated cover system that take some getting use to.graphics- 8-10 nothing special. dated but pretty solid.sound- 9-10 i really thought the music was good and the other sound effect were pretty good as well. no real complaints.story- 10-10 every little thing you do has a ripple effect. such a deep story to follow. brilliant. it really kept me hooked and i want to play again and again to see the other outcomes. theres a recruit and veteran for more story and new challenges.features- 9-10 lots of customizing. dressing for situations. outfitting. deep. but not too deep.achievements- 9-10 if you into this kind of rpg than you’ll be happy to hear you have to play it multiple time to get all the achievements.overall- 9-10 could have been the best game ever. but fell short. if you get past the flaws and like deep rpgs where the numbers count for everything. this is it. personally i was very skeptical of this game. i refused to preorder and wanted to wait for the price to drop. but i couldn’t wait. and it was well worth it in my mind.

I love, love, LOVE this game. I cannot stress that enough. I’d heard the negative reviews, but, the concept seemed interesting to me, so on a whim, I got the game for cheap and it quickly became one of my top 5 fav games this gen.You assume the role of agent Mike Thorton, new recruit to a top secret government espionage agency, who quickly becomes embroiled in a global conspiracy, fighting for his life and to clear his name. Where this game shines is player choice: every choice you make has implications on the story. Characters can end up allies or enemies and will come back to haunt you one way or another depending on how you deal w/ them. Thanks to this, the entire end sequence was different for me on my 2nd playthrough, the gal who was my love interest my first time through ended up having a face off against me as my enemy the 2nd. The gameplay isn’t perfect, and stealth is over powered as hell, but if you can look past that, you will find a game w/ a great story, great voice acting and awesome characters. I hope Obsidian will get a shot at making a sequel sometime.

I’m not going to lie to you, this game has it fair share of issues that drag it down for being truely great, but that’s not to say that there isn’t greatness to be found. While the universal opinion is pretty poor for Obsidian’s ‘Espionage RPG,’ for pretty valid reasons, the games real problems can all be traced back to one thing, lack of polish. You can find examples of this in nearly every review so instead I’ll just explain why I still love this game. To start I was floored by just how different 2 people can play it. I’ll explain, myself and 2 buddies both took on different playstyles. One went pre-set Commando, another choose his own skill tree, while I went pre-set spy. Not only did this change how we handled missions, but it also effected our relationships, convesations and how possible contacts viewed us. The choices we made really seemed to have impact on the world as well as our characters, unlocking various perks affording small bonuses unique to them. While not the most original story, it still manages to get in a few real good twist before the end. The characters you interact with are rich and while if a little stereotypical are well voiced and diveres, especially Thorton your main character. Lastly, I found character progression to be pretty well done. My character seemed to level up at a pretty steady rate through out the game and when it came time for the finale I was nearly max. The skills you chould purchase I also found to be extremely usefull, unique, and f.

Hopefully the Goddess helps Sega decide to make a sequel to this game and bring Obsidian in on it again. I believe it is perhaps one of the single under appreciated games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. I want a sequel because I want the story to ‘continue’ outside of my own imagination.I am rabid about RPG games having a rich player driven action/adventure stories with romance. Where action and dialogue choices define the story as it plays out. If that is what you are after too? Then I am positive you will enjoy this game too. There are many deep fundamental choices that change what missions you are on immediately and even later on in the story. There are some minor bugs and graphic problems but the fell far short from hurting how much I love this game. That is they failed to impact actual gameplay for me. As with all RPGs though just remember to save often because more times than naught you will make a choice you may not like as much later in your story. The NPCs are so awesome that I didn’t mind playing through a mission or two again.- American Ninja and Ronald F*$&!ng Reagon

This game is somewhat of a mixed bag for me, but time and time again I have played through this game over and over again. There are huge issues with the game, but what this game does right certainly brings you back for more.First, the positives. The concept of this game is very innovative as it deems itself “the first tactical espionage RPG”. What this game does right is the dialogue and choices. Whichever way you approach a conversation is how the person you are talking to will react negatively or positively. There is no right or wrong choice, which opens up a plethora of paths to walk and allot of replayability. Your choices will also affect the endgame with the ones you allied yourself with willing to help you while others you pissed off (or killed) will not be willing to help you out. Certain bonuses are earned with certain actions, so experimentation is encouraged to get the results you desire. The voice acting is excellentNext, the negatives. The combat is easily one of the worst parts of the game. The gun play is very stiff and some of the types of guns (SMGs) are overshadowed by others (Rifles) resulting in a huge imbalance for weapon types. The A.I. in this game is ridiculous as sometimes they can’t even see you as you stand right in front of them. The graphics were also sub-par with bad texture pop ins and stiff animations. It loads constantly even when walking down a hallway. There are also a bunch of game breaking bugs even with the patches this game has received.

First off, this game is an RPG at it’s core. While there are shooting, stealth, and action elements, it’s all derived from the skill points your allocate throughout the game. Example. You point a handgun at someone and pull the trigger and you inexplicably miss.. It’s likely b/c your pistol skill was too low. This is a recurring theme will many actions you can perform throughout the game. Again, once you realize it’s an RPG I think you will appreciate this game for what it is, if you like that sort of thing of course. I’m not going to talk about the graphics, story, etc b/c honestly, for the listed price you’re getting a damn good game. However, you’ll need to play through it a few times to completely appreciate what it has to offer and of course to see all of the possible story arcs (there are several of them btw). Give it a shot and keep an open mind. You won’t be disappointed.
