Newcomer to the Metroid series here, love just about everything about this game. The environments are gorgeous, platforming fun, and controls well executed. The 3D makes the backgrounds really pop, but made my eyes burn and ended up being distracting. I would either recommend turning off 3D of using a low setting. Or get a New 2DS, they look nice. Don’t mind using the joystick for movement, my hands are cramped enough as it is. Using the D-pad would ensure pain for sure! At least it doesn’t use the C-stick, now that would be terrible. Wasn’t sure of the difficulty when I started, but let me tell you, this game is hard. I’ve died way more times than I care to repeat, but at least dying during a boss battle doesn’t entail backtracking. The game isn’t difficult in a punishing way like some others, but be warned. IMO, Metroid: Samus Returns is a game that shouldn’t be overlooked, and is completely worth full price.

Ever since Zero Emission came out a decade or so ago, I (like many others) had been feverishly waiting to play the next remake of the Metroid series. While a bit strenuous for my tiny hands, the 3DS is the perfect system for this game. Beautiful graphics and added just enough new elements for returning players and virgin players. I could not put it down!

Its Metroid, its 2D’ish, it doesn’t suck. There’s really no thought required here.
Tim –
I was a fan of the series since 1986, played all of them, except for other M and FF, and this one is my favorite. Tight controls, great visuals and best boss fights in the series.
