Monster Hunter isn’t that booming much in the USA as it does in Japan and other places. I previously own MH3U and I could tell you the game gets gradually tougher for this one while Tri can sometimes make you either rage or look for other resourceful information. MH4U kind of makes hunting a bit more easier…but don’t get cocky though..some monsters can pull one on you especially Gore Magala. The new weapons "Insect Glaive" and "Charge Blade" are loads of fun as well as the new feature of mounting the monsters. There are some cool looking weapons such as the Fledderklauen. There’s a guarantee that there’ll be a monster you’ll hate and a monster you love. You might love fighting the Tetsucabra but hate the Khezu. Monsters like the Lagia aren’t in here…I miss Arzuros but never Barroth. Chacha and Kayamba are no longer in this one and are replace for Palicoes who are your comrades and they all have different abilities. As for multiplayer, make sure you have the right people who are willing to play. I tried finding people, though I’m a solo hunter, but sometimes company is always nice or needed especially when doing G Rank missions. But beware there are some vets who don’t like newbies or fresh starters of armor. In other words, don’t fret when you’re kicked out and always have a goal for either a weapon, armor or both and always be in the right crowd. DLC happens every month and some are great and others are not so great; new missions each month. Foremost, ha.

I was a new player to Monster Hunter, so this was a new and exciting experience for me, that being said the game will guide you every step of the way whether you want it to or not, and I found myself in love with it. MH4 gives the player ever increasing challenges as they progress through monster hunter ranks, as well as all sorts of wonderful, horrifying new monsters. I personally have been really enjoying the new insect glaive, and is a blast to play with friends. The game has a great sense of humor showed in the individuals you talk to, and despite the danger and frustration of failing to beat up a monster, gives you lots of opportunities to train elsewhere and hone your skills before proceeding. This is not a game for the faint of heart because the difficulty ramps up quite exponentially as you play through it, but if you are willing to struggle and improve your weapon, armor, and skills, it can make for a very rewarding experience.

85 hours in, and I still haven’t beaten the main story. You know, the main story that’s just a tutorial for the rest of the game.Hundreds upon hundreds of hours of great content in one tiny cartridge. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate represents some of the most epic, complete, complex, and satisfying gameplay available on a handheld system.

As a Monster Hunter veteran (been playing since MHFU), I can say that this is one of the best installments in the series. Having invested 800+ hours in this game, several great features that I can come up with off of the top of my head are:1. MOUNTING. This new mechanism is so much fun to play with, and also makes it much easier to break specific parts of a monster.2. INSECT GLAIVE. The idea of such a new weapon type is also quite novel. Being able to vault from anywhere makes it a mounting powerhouse. It also has insanely high damage output. Having a glaive user in the party is almost always a blessing.3. GUILD QUEST. These quests are a blackhole for your time. They are hard, and gives the best end-game rewards.4. STORY. The game has a well written story line with accompanying quests. You get to hunt with some NPCs at some point. There are also some other improvements here and there, such as the introduction of item sets, making it much easier to manage your items. All in all, MH4U is hands down one of the best installments of the MH series, and also one of the best games on the DS platform. I barely played any other game in the couple first months that I got MH4U. I would definitely recommend getting a copy of this even if Generations has been out for a couple months by the time of this writing.

This game is awesome. It greatly improves upon the mechanics from the 3rd one. Some may be turned off though by the grinding and lack of story but these types of games aren’t meant to be story driven. It’s best when you get online and play with other people and chat with each other and take down huge monsters together. I’m no veteran but I did play a lot of 3 ultimate and I have to say that I’m quite please with this new iteration. I bought it fully knowing what I was getting into and it’s awesome to have new weapons and abilities you can do thru those weapons and also the environment itself. The under water portions from 3 ultimate will be missed but be able to jump off of any ledge on top of a monster in this one more than makes up for this. All in all, I would say to give it a try and try to see past the slow paced tutorial when u first start out cause once you get passed that, it is truly an enjoyable experience.

My son and daughter have really enjoyed the games. Sadly it’s got more of a learning curve to it than I could handle, so I gave up. Even my daughter says it takes a bit to get used to the controls, but once she got them down it wasn’t that difficult. There is some strategy involved, and you have to plan ahead. It’s a challenging game when first starting, but when you get the hang of it, it’s fun. This is the way my daughter explained it.Hopefully the new Final Fantasy game being released in January will be more my style. :o)

This is a good follow-up to MH3U. Everything from the last game is here and has been improved on. New weapons, new monsters, different ways to get materials now exist ect. You can now play online with others instead of just local play. I only have one gripe; monsters both big and small in this version all seem to be faster. Not just a little faster but almost double the speed while your character is still just as slow as before. Anyway if you have three to four hundred hours to throw away this is the game for you.

Hunt big scary monsters. Die a few times trying. Finally get the kill and feel a sense of accomplishment and victory. Carve their carcasses for a chance to receive their rarest piece to craft their armor with. Didn’t get it? Damn. Okay.Go at it again. This time you almost die but don’t, leaving you with adrenaline pumping in your veins and a need to see if you can carve that rare piece up. You got some other piece that’s equally as important, but not the right one. Damn. Okay. This time, you know what to expect. You dodge the wide sweeps from the enemy’s tail, the balls of literal fire that explode in your face, and the rabid successive attacks of its enraged state. Soon enough, you realize that you only took a few hits over the course of the fight. You feel pride and a feeling of elation at knowing that you, and not the character, are getting better. You carve and carve and finally get that chest scale you wanted. You repeat the hunt a few more times to get the last remaining pieces and go back to town to craft the full set of gear. Decked in the most up-to-date armor, you head off for the next monster only to die three times in a row and cart back to base.Damn.Okay.Best get to it.

MH4U is an awesome game! Reminds me of Dark Souls mixed with Pokemon… except instead of catching them all, you need to kill them all with a sword twice the height of your character and carve up their corpses for new and improved armor or weapons. It is somewhat of a grinding game where you may need to face the same monster repeatedly to get a rare item needed for the next weapon upgrade, but the fighting style is so gratifying and the monsters behave so differently from one another that each and every fight is different and may require different tactics on the part of the hunter. If you buy this game, you absolutely need to download PingsDex (https://sites.google.com/site/pingsdex/pingsmh4gdex/en_us). This windows executable (sorry, Mac users!) contains all items, monsters, quests, skills and everything you can imagine in one central database. You can cross-reference an item to find out what monsters and quests give the item as a reward as well as what maps contain the item. You can also look up each monster’s weaknesses so you bring the optimal weapon into battle. There are upgrade trees for all weapons and armor, as well as the items you need for each upgrade; you can simply double-click the item to find out where you can get it. Super easy to use and a must-have for all MH4U players!

This game is the shinning example of what this series needs to be perfect to the start and to the end when your screaming at your 3ds on g rank. For anyone looking for a fun and challenging game for your 3ds I highly recommend this. You get lost in ther world of monster hunter 200+ hours later and i still got monsters to kill.
