I wrote in my Jak and Daxter review that that game would be the one that all the others would have to meet up to, in terms of graphics and gameplay. Well, I can honestly say, I think they’ve met their match. Graphically, Ratchet and Clank is a sight to behold. Everything is done in such a high-rez detail. You can see buildings way out in the distance, spaceships zooming overhead, it’s brilliant. Gameplay is another matter, entirely, in that it throws a curve ball on the platforming thing. Instead of your character having powers to dispose of its’ enemies, you have bombs and guns. Everything from plot to presentation to control and gameplay, this game raises the bar and then some. This isn’t something you’d expect from the creators of all the Spyro games on the PSone, at all. I mean, you’d expect to see some type of something to remind you of Spyro but, no, not here.Ratchet&Clank is definitely a brilliant addition to the Platforming genre. I tip my hat to Insominiac for such a great game.

That’s what I keep saying as I play. That’s cool! It’s so much fun! My husband and I like platform games, but I’m usually the one playing, and I’m pretty picky about what I like. Rayman2 (for N64 or PS2) is one of my all-time favorites, for example. Spongebob Squarepants (PS2) is another really good one, although it’s obviously meant for a younger crowd–still fun, and really funny (booty figures prominently toward the end). If you have played those and like them, Ratchet and Clank fits into this same category, I think, and if you like Ratchet & Clank, you might consider Rayman and Spongebob. Anyway, it’s really fun, it’s funny, and you get really cool gadgets with which you can smack, bomb, torch, and crunch your enemies with. Clank, Ratchet’s little sidekick, reminds me of the Iron Giant and David Hyde Pierce (that’s a compliment, by the way). Anyway, lots of fun! Can’t wait for Ratchet & Clank 2!

This game is so much fun, not only are there over 30 inventive and amazing weapons and gadgets including a Morph-o-ray which turns your emimies into… CHICKENS and if you upgrade this weapon by using hidden gold bolts the chickens will be huge and explode when they get neat an enemy! On top of all this mayhem is a flawless design with bright beutiful graphics and amzingly interesting levels which will amaze you. Al though the game is rated teen it is fine for people of all ages as the violence is toward robots not other humanlike intelligent life forms. This game also has a huge replay value becuase after you beat it you still need to do skill points which are tasks in different levels like shooting ships down with one of your many guns. All in all first time through this game will take about 10-15 hrs for an average gamer but it does get harder as you progress. BUY IT because its nice to just be able to get rid of boredom by blowing up some bad guys at the end of the day.

I can’t add much to what the other reviewers have said, so let me tell you about my experience with the game.First of all, right from the start, you can see the influence that the classic cartoons of the 40s & 50s had on the designers: it all comes off like a playable version of a Duck Dodgers cartoon, with the same thrilling, thorough design sense, the same goofball sense of humor, and the same utter disrespect of pretty much everything. Nothing is sacred in this story, particularly not Capitalism–there’s actually something of a subtle, socio-satirical bent to the storyline. The gameplay is magnificent, with each world you travel to loading in its entirety during the “planet-hopping” animated sequences. This means that once you land on the world, the wait time is non-existent. This is thanks in large part to the Naughty Dog engine–the one that Jak & Daxter was based on–which Insomniac employed in creating this game.In fact by look and feel, this game plays very much like J&D, but is funnier, grittier, less frustrating, and more satisfying. One of the wonderful features in the game (and there are many) is that you have tons of options for wiping out the enemies (and there are many). What that means is that those of us who lack something in the platform-game-skills department have many, many options for taking out the nasties. Early in the game, I became quite enamored with the Glove of Doom and its ability to take out small groups of enemies while I stood back, completely ou.

I seriously believe this is the greatest game every mady. I love it, beat it probably 100 times. If some day I am president of America or rich or something crazy, I’m totally going to get this series back to its roots. I love the classics!

I am a huge fan of Naughty Dog games (Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter). I always perceived the Ratchet and Clank series as some cheap Jak and Dax knockoff but one day I decided to buy it and to my surprise, I was completely wrong. The company that produced it, Insomniac (Spyro the Dragon), created a gem. I’m slowly going through the series and loving it. The storyline and gameplay are top-notch. I see some similarities within this and Spryo, which is great because the original trilogy Insomniac made was brilliant.
