I bought this for my boyfriend, he said it was okay. Wasn’t as good as he was expecting, but overall worth the time.

For fans of the Warhammer 40K universe the chance to experience it in visual detail is fantastic! From what I have seen so far the forge world it is awesome, huge, dark and gothic! The space marines themselves are great (just wish I had the option to customise), highly detailed right down to thier vicious scars. I appreciated the little in game details such as the background propaganda being issued to the workers and some of the comments made by the space marines themselves (“Colder than a Spacewolf’s smile”). I hope by the end of the game I’m doning the Terminator Armor!

  3. Too Old for Games

This is just a review on the campaign:I came into this game with no prior knowledge of the Warhammer universe and left it with same lack of knowledge so this game to me is just another 3rd person shooter a la Gears of War with roided up heroes and pretty cool weaponry. The comparison to Gears if valid and the developers didn’t even try to hide this fact by the way each chapter unfolds to having a 3-person squad to having almost identical button mapping. You could put in Marcus and Dom and not skip a beat, but I will say this game is pretty fun nonetheless and even funner then Gears 3, which was pretty much a letdown. That’s because in addition to being a 3rd person shooter, it’s also a hacknslash game. Whereas Gears has you taking cover and take pop shots, this game gets rid of the cover system and forces you to hack and slash when you are overcome with orcs which makes for a much faster paced, frenetic game. During these instances, you essentially become Kratos and even have his rage mode when you press down on both analog sticks. There are other fighting sequences that they basically plagiarized from God of War 3 like the kill sequences and knockdowns when you are on a jet pack. But I’m not the type of game who knocks a game for lack of originality so I’m all for copying other games as long as you can improve on the formula. I won’t say this game is an improvement, but it’s still fun and definitely worth a playthrough if you liked any of the games I referenced. Don.

My original exposure to WH40K was through the DOS game Space Hulk. I have been waiting since then for a worthy descendant and Space Marine is that game! For me the campaign just isn’t long enough. I wanted more!Online play is fantastic. A drawback is that the online play is in what is basically giant arenas or mazes and not like the more real world maps you get in COD. Another problem is that there isn’t an option for a multiplayer campaign. There is a DLC that would allow 4 players to play in a campaign like match and some of the maps are much better than the arena/maze style. There is talk of a DLC that would bring back a Space Hulk like match as well. I look forward to that. :)Although there is a tremendous amount of gore in the game, foul language is left out. Yea!

While anyone who is a fan of the Warhammer 40,000 universe will almost automatically buy this game, the appeal of this game goes far beyond the cheap cash-in appeal that would be expected. The narrative holds to the grim seriousness of the universe, without going overboard and drowning the player in bleakness. The gameplay is somewhat difficult to pick up, but the single-player campaign gives you an appropriate challenge level no matter your experience level. Once you get a hang of the controls, however, the game becomes awe inspiring. The combat seamlessly blends Gears of War ranged gameplay with God of War’s intuitive, stylized melee. This game is a must-play.

I have to preface by saying that I am a huge Warhammer 40,000 fan, and, as such, have waited not a little impatiently through its development. I was not dissapointed. This game is beautiful, absolutely stunning. The world is epic is scale, dark, and detailed. The soundtrack is deep and suspenseful. Please don’t believe those that say this game is a button mashing repeat-fest. I assure you it is not. The combat can get a bit repetitive after hours of game play. It can also be mundane if you simply wade into enemies and swing your chainsword. However, that is a crappy (and difficult) way to play the game. Using the different weapons to strategically take out important targets and tackle different situations can have devastating results on your enemy. Further, the levels are constantly changing, as are the configurations of enemy parties, and even the enemies themselves. The game is actually extremely fun. Some have said that is plays a little like Gears of War. I would say that it “plays” very little like gears of war. This game includes much more melee and a unique health system. The game’s weapons are also not really like Gears. Finally, the cover system, something absolutely integral to the Gears experience, is completely missing. That said, the game does, in many ways, “look” like Gears. Some reviewers claim that the hulking Space Marines look like Cogs, the looming stone architecture looks like Jacinto, and the Adeptus Mechanicus insignia and its focus on gears and mechanic.

Do you like a good story line? Do you like mindlessly killing things? Do you like to see progress as your character gets stronger and uses bigger, badder, better new weapons? Then this is your game. No regrets. Just hoping for a #2.Quick delivery. :)

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a melee/third person shooter style action game that follows the story of Captain Titus of the Ultramarines Chapter. Captain Titus is summoned to a distressed planet where an Ork invasion is commencing. Titus is a first responder to the crisis, to protect the Manufactorum and its prized posession, a Warlord class Titan, Invictus. The artwork, the story, the feel, the action — all of it is very true for to the spirit of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Any fan of the genre will be delighted to see the world brought to such vivid life. The level designs are generally large and open and are built to such a scale that you feel small in a gigantic universe. Towering cathedral peaks, gigantic factory settings, Imperial fortifications, ruined cities, and much more. There is no shortage of blood, gore, and exploding heads. The combat action isn’t very complicated and is fairly easy to get a grip on through out the earlier levels. As the game progresses you’ll become exposed to slowly increasingly more frantic and pressured combat situations where you will have a chance to make use of your skills, weapons, and melee moves. Your arsenal expands nicely over time, and there really isn’t a lack of available ammunition in the long run. The action does build slowly, but it certainly builds some good momentum as the game gets into the last third. You will know the maelstrom of combat in due time.Any fan of Warhammer 40,000 should give this game a try..

I got into to Warhammer 40,000 sometime after it came out 20 some years ago but drifted away from it. Being a sci-fi fan and strategy games enthusiast I would say the Warhammer 40K universe probably surpasses Star Wars in its following. The only remanant I have of that time my is original copy of the Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader(still in excellent condition) and Epic Space Marine table top game. I first saw the trailer to Space Marine not too long ago and didn’t realize how much it has prospered so I wanted to get it. Being a console gamer myself I downloaded the demo and started playing it right away. Seeing how the controls were set I found the game play very smooth and felt good about I decided to get the game. I haven’t played Gears of War so I’m not going to try and compare it but I find Space Marine very much the game for me. Online play is very good. I like the customizer because I can outfit my Marine in any of my favored Chapters armor and the variety of armory loadouts though it takes awhile. Online is okay but I would like to see the co-op DLC coming out and perhaps additional maps for online and may an additional mission for the campaign.
