My grandchildren are having a ball with this wii music. They make their own music concerts. They have brought their grades up in school since I had the wii. They are not allowed to get on until they have finished all their work and my daughter has checked it.Mama J

From all the reviews I read before buying the product, I decided we were either going to really like it or quickly lose interest. I’m pleased to report it was the former. Our kids that play this game range from 6 to 13, and they have had a great time putting together different musical performances, playing maestro, ringing bells, etc. I think the key is manage your expectations. This game is not Guitar Hero or RockBand and if you’re looking for that kind of music or experience, you won’t find it here. I would have given the product five stars if there was a way to add more music to the game.

I love the recent string (no pun intended) of musical games coming out from Guitar Hero to Rock Band. Problem is, those kits are flippin’ expensive and I’m not too keen on storing either plastic guitars or bulky drum sets. Don’t get me wrong, I own them anyway but lugging them to a friend’s house is no fun task.Enter Wii Music.Wii music is pantomime meets Rock Band. The bulk of the game revolves around the player mimicking gestures to simulate sound according to the actual song being played as the notes are hit automatically unless the player’s timing is off. The player does this up to six different instruments to simulate melody, bass, percussion etc. When the player is done, he or she can make a CD jacket to label the track and make a music video of it. On top of this, there are three minigames.1: Wii Conductor. Move your arms similar to a conductor to make an orchestra go.2: Hand bells like the ones some people use in Christmas musicals or church services.3: Music quiz thingy similar to the memorization game on Wii Play. That’s it! That is, in a nutshell, the entire game. While the game itself is simplistic, that is also the idea. Nintendo, in it’s grand scheme of marketing to the casual gaming audience, has created a very simple, yet elegant, game to allow the player to easily mimic music without real lessons or going nuts while trying to play Through the Fire and Flames on Guitar Hero 3. In doing so, Nintendo has appealed to anyone who desires a musical experi.

Since there are numerous videos and review focusing on the details, this review will focus on the subjective enjoyment factors. At first, I thought Wii Music was going to be a major disappointment, but I was wrong. As usual, the folks at Nintendo deliver a great game, one that people of all ages and skill level can enjoy. I have played this with kids ranging from 8-10 and even a published songwriter and we have all enjoyed different elements. If you are worried about younger kids enjoying the game, don’t be. Even my three year old nephew enjoyed watching us play.Completing the lessons are the key to enjoying this game. Not only do they teach you how to play the game, but also how to complete musical arrangements for different genres, a transferable skill. You could actually learn the the basics of playing a drum set from Wii Music. One bonus is that the games utilizes your Miis in the game for both performances and audience participants, a hallmark of Nintendo games.Since you can continue to make arrangements more complicated and more songs are unlocked as you play, the game has a great longevity projection.Make sure you withhold judgement of the game until you have gone through all of the lessons and unlocked all of the music. The more you play it, the more you will enjoy it.

My grandkids have all of those games at home where there is fighting and killing. I don’t like them at all. I got this for them and they really enjoy and they get up and get some exercise too.
