First of all i would like to say this is the most realistic baseball game i’ve ever played it has everything from the train sound at Seattle’s Safeco Field to the home fans at Wrigley throwing the opposing team’s homerun ball back. This game has way more realism than TP 2002,High Heat and Sega’s World Series, some of it’s amazing details include: Takeout slides, Players charging the mound, player ejections, Team Mascots, and Active Bullpens, the list goes on and on so all stop there, and i would rate this game’s realism an 11 on a scale of 1-10. Now here’s the most complained about part of the game, the gameplay, the gamplay has it’s ups and it’s downs, Hitting: the hitting on this game is kind of hard at first but you will get used to it, and this game is definetly not a homerun derby type, you get alot of scores like 4-3,7-5, and 2-0, so don’t expect to be scoring 20 runs a game. The ball comes in alot faster so you have to have quicker reactions, but it’s not that hard, i’ve had this game since may and already i can score 10 runs a game on Rookie. Pitching: the pitching is definetly this game’s gameplay strong point, it is pretty easy to keep the ball in the strike zone and the pitches break right, once you’ve played this game long enough you’ll be striking out people left and right on Rookie Mode. The defense is pretty simple, just go to the star and you’ll catch the ball, but be a little in front of it, and don’t expect to make alot of diving catches in the outfield beca.

All Star Baseball 2003 is the best baseball game I have ever played. The Expansion and Franchise modes are great, new players from the minors come up as the years progress, and players retire. The greatest thing is that its the only baseball game that lets you continue on to the next season. Teams move out of thier stadiums and into new ones. The graphics are unbelievable, and the players are easily recognizable by thier faces. This is not one like the Triple Play series, where every game is decided by a score of 20-19, and in this game scores are frequently 3-2. There are recreations of classic stadiums such as Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, The Polo Grounds in New York, Tiger Stadium in Detroit, and Classic Yankee Stadium. There is a great new section that deals with player cards, and some can increase the amount of cheats, stadiums, and players to choose from. The Create a Player has many different options including, high socks, glove colors, and bats. Overall, This is an awesome game.

Great Job Acclaim, keep up the good work. All Star Baseball 2003 is a great game that can only get better. I like all of the features, the graphics and the game play go hand in hand. I love the franchise mode. I took the Kansas City Royals and after finishing in 4th place I was amazed how little salary cap I had to keep my regulars, Wow how real is this game. I played some game where I blow out my opponent but there are some 2-1 gamesI love creating an expansion city I would love it if they could allow the player to create their own city, I give this game 4 stars and will look forward to future impovements.

Ok, ok, I know that the last time I wrote a review about ASB 2003 I was a bit harsh and cold, well, I played it some more and I must say that I definetly change my mind. I play this every night, EVERY night, regardless of any new game I get, ASB 2003 is my nightlight. The trouble (if you remember) I had before was the hitting, but one feature I had completely overlooked was the batting practice. Can you say “Aced it” boys and girls?.. sure you can. One of the things I love about ASB 2003 is that there can be drastic changes in the very end of the game, whether you’re winning OR losing. Your heavy hitters can either “REPRESENT” or fail you miserably. It is with no doubt, like a real game you would watch on ESPN, etc. The commentary at times may get a little annoying, but thank goodness for “options” you can just shut them up, at times when you’re a couple of runs behind, you really don’t want anyone telling you that your next batter sucks by telling you their low batting average when it’s 2 outs. It’s very competetive when you play someone (a buddy) in the world series. I still give this game 4 stars, I guess it’s missing something, I can’t quite put my finger on it maybe if the outfielders would both go for the ball and collide, if there were a BIG celebration on the field after winning the World Series, managers or players argueing with the umpire or maybe even the batter REALLY getting nasty after almost getting hit with the pitch. Again, as usual, rent it first before you.

Being a Triple Play fan for many many seasons I was surprised at how much I enjoyed All-Star Baseball 2003. The game does not leave anything out. Triple Play is much easier to play, hitting, fielding and pitching on Triple Play presents no real challenge. All-Star there is an element of difficulty present here adding to the realism that Acclaim is trying to portray. The expansion mode gives gamers a challenge to take a rag-tag bunch of guys and turn them into winners. A novel idea in the sport arena of games. Franshise mode containing 20 seasons, would make this the last baseball game that you would ever need to buy. I am pleased to see that injuries are included, 15 day and 60 day disabled lists. A farm team for you to choose to bring up rookies and let them have their shot in the show.Stunning real life game play. The replays really give you a perspective of being there, participating in the game. Life like graphics even include breath coming from players mouths in colder temperatures. Old school uniforms allow you to play in those horrible Astros uniforms of the day.For those that do not like game play. There is a myriad of other options. You can take batting practice in a bevy of ballparks and at a variety of pitches and locations. The homerun derby gives you a tour to the past as you can try to be the forth to hit a homerun into centerfield at the Polo Grounds. And then for those that can’t stand playing video games, but like trivia. Strap on your cleats an.

General/Summary: This is quite possibly one of the best looking baseball games that I have ever played and the gameplay goes hand in hand with it. At first I thought that this was just another mediocre baseball game but then I started to realize what this game is about. The detail in this game is amazing, the options and extras are very nice because it adds alot more life to this game. I’m sure the only reason anyone would read this is to find out if it is better than High Heat 2003 or Triple Play(ugh), well I used to own High Heat 2002 and I have the demo of 2003 and I would say that without a doubt All Star Baseball is better. In HH(the demo) it was way to easy to strike the opposing batters out, and i’m guessing that anyone who knows any kind of pitching strategy could easily win with 20+ k’s. All in all All Star Baseball is actually more of a sim than High HeatGameplay: The gameplay is great. It reminded me of the MLB series from 989 for the Playstation. When you choose your pitch each button is assigned to a certain pitch, so x might be fastball and square might be change-up.(each pitcher has the right pitches that he has in real life) Then you would move the cursor to where you want in or out of the strike zone and press x to throw it. You can also throw pick-offs too first, second, and third,, simply by pressing the corresponding button, and you can also do a mid-windup pick-off which I was quite pleased with. All you have to do is wait till the pitcher is half way thr.

It is about time that one game had everything baseball fans need. ASB 2003 perfectly combines game play and statistics to make it the new standard. I have recently purchased the game, but after about 15 games I have found the scoring to be realistic, the game time manageable, and the difficulty level challenging. Their are tricky aspect to fielding and hitting which I’m sure in time will become easier. One thing I wish is that there was a way to save a game in progress. The trivia game is a nice little add on. The graphics look great, and I LOVE the franchise option. I look forward to many hours of game play. If you like baseball get this game!

Listen I don’t know where all these people are coming from who have played High Heat Baseball. That game is horrible, it blows. I bought it after reading the reviews on here and I knew I should have stuck with All Star Baseball. High Heat has bad graphics, poor gameplay, and absolutely no options. I think it must have cost ten bucks to make. Playing High Heat is about like watching a TV show on PAX, no fun. All Star year after year has been good and has improved every year. I’ve been buying them since the N64 days. So the only reason I wanted to write this review was to warn other people about buying High Heat. If you like baseball and want options and and more interaction, BUY this game, not High Heat. Thanks for your time. GO REDS!

For realism, playability and sheer fun for baseball fans, Acclaim’s All-Star Baseball 2003 is tops! As a gamer who always takes the tough road to victory by playing coach, this game offers a coaching mode that rewards good coaching and penalizes dumb coaching decisions. The graphics are excellent. The players look like they are, for the most part, really playing the game and are not awkward or stilted, and the system allows the coach to really coach, not simply watch the game, as in some other baseball game systems. The system also offers great flexibility to reconfigure leagues and teams or add expansion teams to create a real "dream" team or league, as the player chooses. There are some areas that could still use some work, however. In playing coach, one expects to be able to set lineups, and that feature is available. Problem is that occassionally the game takes over and sets a lineup for a particular game for you, with no way to change it short of dropping one of the players in the lineup the game created. While the coach mode has almost every coaching decision that one can make, including sacrifice bunts and squeeze plays, it lacks a means of intentionally walking a batter without leaving that mode of play. It also has no coaching decision for a hit-and-run play, and that really needs to be added to the list. Simply directing a batter to hit the ball, whether for power or just to connect with the pitch, does not ensure that the batter will swing at the ball.

Gameplay: The pitching is really simple and it’s not too easy or too hard to strike a batter out. The batting is difficult and I was frustrated at first but after playing more I got the hang of it. Its very realistic and is the perfect difficulty but if you want, you can switch to easy hitting, where all you need to do is get the timing right and not location. 9/10Graphics: Simply amazing. I can recognize all of the ballparks. By far the best for ps2 baseball games. 10/10Sound: Lots of info. Above average. 7/10Replayability: Enough modes to keep you interested for a very long time. 10/10Overall: 9/10 (not an average)
