Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Sunshine is a 2002 platform game develop and publish by Nintendo for the GameCube. It is the second 3D game in the Super Mario series, following Super Mario 64 (1996). The game was direct by Yoshiaki Koizumi and Kenta Usui. Produce by series creators Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, written by Makoto Wada. And score by Koji Kondo and Shinobu Tanaka.
However, the game takes place on the tropical Isle Delfino, where Mario, Toadsworth, Princess Peach. And five Toads are taking a vacation. A villain resembling Mario, known as Shadow Mario, vandalizes the island with graffiti. And leaves Mario to be wrongfully convict for the mess. Also Mario is order to clean up Isle Delfino, using a device the Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device (F.L.U.D.D.). While saving Princess Peach from Shadow Mario.
Super Mario Sunshine receive critical acclaim, with reviewers praising the game’s graphics, gameplay, story, soundtrack, and the addition of F.L.U.D.D. as a mechanic. Though some criticize the game’s camera and F.L.U.D.D.’s gimmicky nature. Moreover, the game sold over five million copies worldwide by 2006, making it one of the best-selling GameCube games. The game was re-release as a part of the Player’s Choice brand in 2003. Nintendo EPD rerelease it alongside Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection for the Nintendo Switch in 2020.
Gameplay
Super Mario Sunshine shares many similar gameplay elements with its predecessor, Super Mario 64, while introducing various new gameplay features. Players control Mario as he tries to obtain 120 Shine Sprites in order to bring light back to Isle Delfino and prove his innocence. After Bowser Jr. (disguise as Mario) steals the Shine Sprites and covers the island in toxic slime. Players start off in the hub world of Delfino Plaza and access various worlds via portals which become available as the game progresses.
Similar to collecting Stars in Super Mario 64, players obtain Shine Sprites by clearing a select mission with a specific objective. Unlike its predecessor, these missions have a more strictly linear order and most other mission Shine Sprites cannot collect until the previous missions are complete. There are also various hidden areas and challenges across Isle Delfino where more Shine Sprites can be obtain. Throughout the game, players may also find Blue Coins hidden across the island, which can be exchange for more Shine Sprites in the boathouse at Delfino Plaza.
F.L.U.D.D. (Flash Liquidizing Ultra Dousing Device)
However, in this game, Mario is join by a robotic backpack name F.L.U.D.D. (Flash Liquidizing Ultra Dousing Device). Which uses the power of water to clean away goop and help Mario reach new places. Mario starts with two default nozzles for F.L.U.D.D. Squirt and Hover, which he can quickly switch between. The Squirt nozzle lets Mario spray a stream of water which he can use to clean sludge, attack enemies, and activate certain mechanisms. The Hover nozzle lets Mario hover in the air for a short period of time, allowing him to cross large gaps while simultaneously spraying things directly below him.
As the game progresses, Mario unlocks two additional nozzles for F.L.U.D.D. Which can be substitute with the Hover nozzle: the Rocket nozzle. It shoots Mario high up into the air; and the Turbo nozzle. And moves Mario at high speeds, allowing him to run across water and break into certain areas. Each of F.L.U.D.D.’s nozzles use water from its reserves, which can be refill via water sources such as rivers or fountains.
Secret Courses
There are also various secret courses where F.L.U.D.D. is taken away from Mario, forcing him to rely on his natural platforming abilities. Unlike Super Mario 64, Mario can no longer long jump. He can instead perform a spin jump by twirling the analog stick and jumping, allowing Mario to jump higher and farther. Mario can also now perform dives at any time, giving Mario the ability to slide quickly across wet surfaces and serve as another alternative to the long jump.
At certain points in the game, Mario may come across an egg which hatches into a Yoshi after being brought a fruit he asks for. Yoshi can be ridden upon and can attack by spitting juice. Which can clear certain obstacles that water cannot. Yoshi can also use his tongue to eat enemies or other pieces of fruit which change his color, depending on the type of fruit. Yoshi will disappear if he runs out of juice or falls into deep water. Juice can be replenish by eating more fruit.

I’m really happy they made this collection. I have a modded Wii and have access to all these games already but the upscale to these 3 games are appreciated. This definitely needs to be in your collection. Also side note to my surprise because I preordered I ended up getting the game for $49.99 because of a rare price drop after I submitted my order. Also I’m only giving it 4 stars as I feel Super Mario Galaxy 2 should’ve been included as well. Otherwise this would be a wise purchase.

Came well packaged and undamaged. Plays great. Super excited to play these classic games back to back to back. The games are just ports unfortunately, but still look nice and crisp on the Switch. I whole-heartedly recommend to any Mario fan or collector. Not a bad little collection, wish it had Galaxy 2 as well though. I wish there was an option to change button maps / control. Had trouble adjusting to the controls given at first. Not a perfect title, but still a good little addition to the Switch library.

No matter what has been said about this collection, this will always be the best because of having Super Mario 64 on it ever since the Wii U Virtual Console days in a re release. Not only that, for those who don’t own a GameCube, Super Mario Sunshine is on here and now you can play it on the Switch as well as Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii for those who also don’t own a Wii. I do congratulate Nintendo for this amazing collection. But Nintendo, please do me this one favor and put Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Wii on the 3D All Stars Collection

Mario has always been my inspiration since childhood. Though I’m working on my Mario collection, for the third time, I figured I’d add this to my arsenal. I already have Super Mario 64 downloaded on my Wii U, yet I will be playing through it once more on Super Mario 3D All-Stars. This game will save people much money if they were looking to get the classic Super Mario Sunshine on the Nintendo Gamecube, as that’s the only classic that isn’t downloadable.Overall, I loved this game. Long live Mario The Great!Edit: My only complains are that they should have added more content to all three titles, as well as a repeat option for the soundtracks. Moreover, they could have also included unreleased soundtracks. Anything to commemorate Mario’s 35th anniversary than what we got. Super Mario 3D All-Stars is great, yet could have been much better.

If you don’t own these on any other platform this is a great way to revisit these beloved classics. Mario 64 is almost tripled it’s original resolution while holding a stable 30 frames per second with this being a port of the revised “Shindou pak taiou” 1997 edition the backwards vault slide glitch was fixed along with the “So long gay bowser” meme but most textures are unchanged. Super Mario Sunshine seems to have had the most attention with more vibrant colors all around as well as the higher resolution resulting in a much less blurry image. However this game also runs at 30 frames per second and the classic GameCube controls have been slightly altered due to differences when compared with the Switch’s Joycons, even when using an adapter (so you can no longer change the water pressure.) Last but not least Mario Galaxy looks sharper than ever with the boost in resolution and transitions to modern displays quite smoothly, motion controls are integrated very well and this is an all around smooth 60fps experience. The soundtrack from all 3 games are also included.

It’s literally what is described. You get the game cartridge with 3 FANTASTIC games with one of the only changes being a voice line from Mario being swapped for something else in SM64 when he throws Bowser. You also get the Original Soundtracks for all 3 of the games as well. Most people will complain that you don’t get the manuals or the pretty super box arts or even remastered content. Nintendo never said that they would remaster or deliver Quality of Life changes to these games. These are strictly the games and their respective soundtracks. 3 amazing games for 60 dollars actually isn’t bad considering these games separately can cost you well over $100-$200 if you wanted to play them on their original consoles. If you are looking for a trip down memory lane without all the bells and whistles of older consoles and CRT televisions, this is the product for you. Happy gaming!

Ignore the guy that gave this a one star review, the game(s) in this are amazing. If you have children or grew up playing Mario 3d, Mario Sunshine or Mario Galaxy you won’t be disappointed.Mario 64 wasn’t really altered much, but it plays great with smoother textures. Mario Sunshine was upgraded to 16:9 and 1080p @ 30 fps. Mario Galaxy was upgraded to 1080p @ full 60 fps. This is a limited item so definitely buy it if you want it!

This is the best way to experience these games, period. The games have all been upscaled to HD resolution and they look amazing because of it. In my opinion Super Mario Galaxy benefits the most from this, it is an already beautiful game that is finally in full 1080p resolution. I should note every game here controls EFFORTLESSLY on Nintendo Switch. The controls for Super Mario 64 are especially impressive, considering how poorly the game ran on Wii and Wii U. Super Mario Sunshine gets a much needed widescreen addition, which really helps the game. And for those of you concerned with how Galaxy has been adapted, rest assured the game works great (if not even better) with the option to use traditional controls instead of motion controls. My only gripe with this collection is the lack of Super Mario Galaxy 2, which I desperately hoping is added down the line as paid DLC. The collection lacks a lot of features used to flesh out other collections (such as a museum or a promotional material showcase), but I personally believe this collection is perfectly fine without it. You NEED this in your life if you are a Mario fan, period.

Considering this is a first party switch game and each title comes out to $20 per game how can you go wrong? Galaxy alone is worth it for me because it looks more beautiful than ever. I’m not a fan of sunshine but the graphics are beautiful. Super Mario 64 is a classic. The best part is they are all on one cartridge so you can take them anywhere with you. The interface is very simple and user friendly. I’m not sure about the bad reviews?

I’ve been hoping Nintendo would release an HD version of Mario Sunshine for a long while now. They really didn’t need to throw in any extra games for me to be happy. All the games look great but why isn’t Mario 64 in widescreen I wonder…The only real issue is the controls with Sunshine and Galaxy. Sunshine uses two buttons to compensate for not having an analog trigger and the aiming is NOT inverted. An option to invert my aiming would have been nice. :)Galaxy uses gyro controls to simulate the Wii remote pointer and it’s pretty awful. If you play in handheld mode the touch controls are a little better but it still never feels as good as it did on Wii. I’d say all of these games played better on their original hardware but with Galaxy I think they did the best they could on Switch. All in all I appreciate this collection. Some controls have been compromised but these games have never looked better and this is the most affordable way to experience all three of these games.
